Western Health is one of the largest providers of Maternity Services in Australia, delivering approximately 6500+ women annually at Sunshine Hospital JKWC, whilst supporting pregnancy care, labour and birth, post-natal and in home care services for pregnant women and their families.

Since 2013 there has been a specialist Maternal Fetal Medicine Service based at Sunshine Hospital, supporting the increasing complexities of pregnancies and birth, with a major focus on pregnancy, fetal and birth outcomes research for both mother and baby.

Our Maternal Fetal Medicine Research team includes highly experienced MFM Specialists, Obstetricians and Research Coordinators/Midwives. Our unit develops and coordinates both Australian and International clinical trials and participates in a myriad of MFM/Obstetric Investigator led and Sponsored studies.

We believe all pregnant women should be given the opportunity to participate in research as a means of potentially improving both theirs and their babies’ outcomes and contribute to improving evidence-based care for all women.
